First, a brief history
Back in 2020, me and my friend Rui, participated in a BMcar art contest and we ended up winning it.
What started as a "do you want to make this? we have nothing to lose" project, quickly became a non stop attempt at making the most we could in basically 2 and a half weeks. Lots of coffee cups and sore wrists later, we finished the project, sent it to BMcar (who actually sent it to BMW headquarters in Germany) and 4 weeks later we got the call saying we were the winners.
All projects that got to the final were on display on BMcar's showroom in Casa da Música, Porto. After the contest was over we got to display our project once more. The installation features video animation, digital illustration and sound design to create an immersive and emotional message.
The film features BMW's rich history, summarized in a timeline which travels through the past, present and even the future, and highlights some of the most remarkable events and the most iconic vehicles of the brand.
Now that you are up to date on story behind it, I'll give you my pride and joy "BMW - A History of Freedom"
Indoor panels
Inside of the showroom, we used the 3 large screens to display this informational video about the vehicles.
The video shows the vehicles in frames like they were in a museum to be looked at. It also shows the specifications on the right side and the first introduction year on the left. We used this animation combined with the first main video to create a more dynamic experience. Because we had a total of 6 screens (3 indoor and 3 outdoor), we only displayed the main video on the outdoor screens.
BMcar Showroom Exhibition
This video shows the multimedia installation that we created in BMcar's showroom in Casa da Música, Porto. For 7 days, people could see our work not only from the showroom but from the outside as well. We were very proud of this and we hope you enjoyed it as well!
